bio

Formed in 1997, skin contact grew out of founder Kevin Breidenbach's interest in both electronic music & computers. Early works were influenced heavily by the EBM & industrial dance music of the 90's, as well as other forms of electronic music. Over time, the sound of SC has evolved to include elements of IDM, drum & bass, noise, and rhythmic industrial music to form a unique blend of dark electronics. Recent releases have been well-received by the underground press, being described as “meticulously sculpted”, “expertly engineered”, and “intelligent”.

In addition to SC, Kevin has another solo electronic project called Fugue State, which leans more towards the ambient/experimental/IDM side of things. There have also been a number of collaborative projects over the years, the longest-running being Skin Receptor with d. smith, which later fused with another project of his, Krushed Opiates. More info on these other projects below.

Kevin is also an active remixer, both solo projects having done a number of remixes for acts such as The Mercy Cage, N.U.T.E, Cholostase, 3am, MKDELTA, and others. Skin Receptor also remixed a number of tracks while they were active, some of which are still floating around the net. Those interested in contacting Kevin for remix work should use the contact form on this site.

Short list of influences: Front 242, Skinny Puppy, X Marks the Pedwalk, Haujobb, Die Form, Noise Unit, Out Out, Scar Tissue, Dive, Numb, Templebeat, Pig, 16 Volt, Acumen Nation, Coil, Download, Scorn, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Juno Reactor, The Future Sound of London, Autechre, Noisia, Panacea, Lagowski.

other projects

Fugue State - this is the catch-all project for various noodlings that don't fit anywhere else. Often (but not always) on the mellower side of things, shows some IDM, abstract hip-hop & ambient influences, .

Krushed Opiates - now-defunct industrial dance side project with d. smith (Opiate Receptor) & Al Warr (Krush-R). The album "Driving the Two-Dimensional Highway" is available from DSBP records. Though not a huge success, it was well-recieved, and garnered great reviews (see the link for the KO myspace page).

Skin Receptor - now-defunct side project with d. smith. After doing several remixes & some original material, ended up merging with Krushed Opiates (which was previously d. & Al).

Cogitate - another collaborative side project, this time with Rick Bakos of Gross National Produkt. Three tracks were recorded around 2001, see the link on the "other" page under "audio downloads" to have a listen.

Someone Else's Problem - this is a local band Kevin played bass for from sometime in 2005 until the summer of 2008. The other members were Luke Wierman (guitar/vocals) & Kris Wilson (drums). After several shows in small bars SEP split due largely to time constraints. Kris & Kevin have plans to someday collaborate on another project.

For more insight into Kevin's passion for synthesis & sound design, see the synthgeek pages.
